What is digital radiography?
Digital radiography, often referred to as digital X-rays, is an important diagnostic tool we use at the dental office of James M. Kinney, DMD. It allows us to create a comprehensive record of your smile so we are able to provide the best possible treatments. Digital X-rays differ from traditional radiography in that digital X-rays utilize a digital sensor to capture the image for immediate display and examination; digital radiography in Marietta, Georgia also reduces radiation exposure by over 80%. We utilize digital X-rays to fully understand your smile and exactly what your individual dental needs are. Digital X-rays are also an important educational tool; we use them to help you understand your smile and why we suggest certain treatments.
What is a PAN machine?
A PAN machine is our choice of high-quality digital radiography technology. The PAN machine allows us to more easily take panoramic films of your smile and bitewing X-rays. With a PAN machine, you simply have to stand still as it takes the images. Dr. James M. Kinney, our expert dentist, utilizes digital radiography to detect:
- Tooth decay
- Periodontal disease
- Bite or alignment abnormalities
- Impacted teeth
- Cysts, tumors, or abscesses
- Bone loss
